Today Panasonic revealed details of its new high-end mirrorless 4/3 camera, the Lumix G9. Pitched as the “ultimate outdoor and wildlife camera” the new G9 features a 20.3MP Digital Live MOS sensor, which is claimed to provide the highest image quality of any Panasonic camera it its category. One of the biggest headline features of the model is the 80-megapixel super resolution mode, which can be used to create both RAW and Jpeg images, suggesting huge potential for detail capture and image editing creativity.

To further the appeal to photographers looking to capture ultra high levels of detail, the G9 does not feature a physical Low-pass filter over the sensor, while it also incorporates an advanced image stabilisation (IS) system, which combines both body-based (B.I.S) and lens-based (O.I.S) technology. This duel system is said to provide up to 6.5 stops of compensation, allowing hand-holding of the camera in low-light situations.

The latter makes use of Panasonic’s Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology to offer a class-leading 0.04 second AF response. Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity is included, alongside duel card slots for vast file storage capacity.
